Well, Dorian is finally here. After the long, slow movement it took to get to SC, it arrived late last night (Wednesday). 1 September, the SC Governor said lane reversals would start Monday for evacuating, mind you, the hurricane hadn’t made it to Florida yet. I am not complaining, better to play it safe. This announcement coupled with government shutdown, let me know that I wouldn’t be going to work till further notice. As for Sheryl, work as usual, until today, then possibly back to work Friday. I definitely had enough time to get the outside of the house ready and loose items put away. Gas for the generator bought, food provisions, good to go. As for us, and many others, we will stay up to a Cat 3, any higher, we are outta here.
I slept through a lot of its arrival, but Sheryl was woken several times. We have, to this moment, only lost power once and it was for a brief five minutes. As for damage, our yard is a debris field of tree limbs. The pool will be fun to clean out as well, as we don’t have a pool cover yet. As for damage, one section of fence broke free. I tried to put it back together, with Sheryl pushing it together and fighting the wind. Unfortunately found didn’t have wood screws long enough. I had to resort to using an old extension cord since I didn’t have any rope. Hopefully it will hold till Dorian leaves. While we were sitting in the office, a big branch came and hit the window and tore the screen, so screen down on the second floor. But it was a big enough bang to scare Sheryl.
Overall this hurricane hasn’t been horrible. No real power loss, very thankful for that, and damage minimal. So we are very thankful! There are a lot of people without power and bad damage to their houses or fences. Even though we aren’t out of the woods yet, they are calling for the strongest winds later this afternoon. So now we wait. Fingers crossed that we will make with no more issues.
